Prep for Winter Training

TRAINING FOR WINTER:

We are looking at having an informal gathering in December to welcome new members, answer questions, and go over some general principles of training. We will post a date and time soon. If interested, please send to me:

1. Do a 1.5 mile time trial on a track (lane 1) or a treadmill once you are recovered from your Fall races. Record your time and max heart rate during that effort. Warm up about 10 min. easy before the time trial. Walkers- do the same, but for 1 mile. We will estimate your aerobic ability and training paces from this data.

2. Send your 1.5 mile time, max heart rate, age, current weight (not what you want to weigh), PR's at 5K, 1/2, and 26.2, and your goal races/dates/paces.

*If I have tested you in the lab, your values there are more accurate, but go ahead and do the time trial.
Forum: Second Sole Forum

Be sure to include some rest days, cross training, yoga, massage, etc. If you plan to compete in a Spring marathon, maintain your weekly mileage around 20-35 miles with a long run of about 10 miles (weekly or every other week). This phase is vital to prevent injury and also refresh yourself mentally. It is also crucial if you want to go for a peak performance next season.

All Tuesdays: 6:30 PM Rocky River High School track

All Thursdays: 6:30 PM Second Sole Rocky River.
"CRAMPED"

If one word can describe this weekend is "CRAMPED".

Driving from Cleveland to D.C. in the Edge "CRAMPED".
Traffic in around the Washington area "CRAMPED".
In and out of the hotel shuttle "CRAMPED".
Walking around the MCM expo "CRAMPED".
Riding the Metro to the start "CRAMPED".
Starting corral before the race "CRAMPED".
First ten miles of marathon feel like today is the day.
Mile 11-12 intestinal "CRAMP".
Stopped to "CRAP"
No more "CRAMP".
Mile 14-16 left hamstring "CRAMP".
Mile 18-20 right quad "CRAMP".
The next four miles were a "CRAMP", walk, jog, "CRAMP", walk, jog you know the drill.
Final two point two miles I knew no matter what I was going to "CRAMP" my way to the finish without any more walking. The incline to Iwo Jima was a thrill. Thanks to the throngs of people who made it easier. What great crowd support.
So what started out as what I thought was going to be a good day turned out very "CRAMPY" for me. But I survived to run another day.

I must apologize to my wife for running away at mile seven but I thought I could have been a contender not a pretender.
I am very happy that she finally got the four hour monkey off her back even though she is not happy.

Forum: Second Sole Forum
